Construction of a different kind
Sometimes the logistics involved in shooting a photo make it impossible to achieve. A recent job for Hitachi proved this point. We wanted to create a series of images that showed different industry solutions and involved a number of machines in different locations, such as quarries, demolition sites etc.
To ship all the machines to different locations around the world was simply impossible due to the cost and time involved. So we had to think of a different approach to create the idea in our heads.
We've worked with Hitachi for a number of years now and in that time have built up an extensive library of photos of almost every location and machine possible. We began to look through these and started to select images that we could use to build each image.
In theory this sounds simple but in reality it wasn't. Not only did we have to build each location from scratch, we also had to find the right machines at the right angles with the correct lighting! Once we had these we then had to slot them into each location to create a believable image that people would think had been conventionally shot. No mean feat!
After a lot of hours spent in photoshop we achieved what we had set out to do. Six industry solution images and a range image that included each class of machine had been created from scratch. A "tough" job for a tough client – but we succeeded!
