Life begins at…?
As the month of April draws to a close in the year 2010, I will remember it most for turning the magical age of 40. With a month-old bambino, I always knew that there would be no point in organising some kind of big party to celebrate this notable landmark. And besides, not only has life changed since my 18th, 21st, 25th, 30th etc. birthday bashes, but technically I should be older and wiser as well…
So, having waited to see what the weather was like on the big day, I had planned a special lunch in one of my favourite local Italian restaurants – seafood was the order of the day – followed by a trip to the seaside! The sun shone and we had a lovely time at Honeysuckle Farm in Hornsea. In fact watching my three-year-old son Ben enjoying himself so much and feeding the animals helped make it one of the best birthdays I’ve had in years.
Apart from that, I was content to treat myself to the biggest fillet steak I’ve ever had, washed down the most expensive bottle of Rioja I’ve ever bought – as recommended by a lovely lady in Waitrose! Life really has changed for the better, as I begin to appreciate some of the best things in life, which will hopefully prove in years to come that… Life really does begin at 40!
(The family picture was taken in Hornsea at the end of a wonderful afternoon!)
