The Fever
I think I’m showing early signs of World Cup fever! The game schedule downloaded from the internet. The flag of Saint George neatly ironed and folded ready to wear to the pub.
The sudden interest in the temperature and humidity for Mr Ferdinand et al training in Rustenberg. Yes the fever is here and I think in a few weeks, during the full throws of it, looking back at me from the mirror in my bathroom will be my hungover, blotchy white face with the tell-tale red cross at the centre!
The fever is also affecting me at work. I have already printed out a sweepstake and my colleagues and I have picked from the hat and parted with money ever hopeful that our team will perform a miracle. With Uruguay and Slovakia, my chances are extremely slim! Not sure if it was fever induced, but I even managed to miss an entire group out, so the draw had to take place again – much to the irritation of one unlucky staff member who had originally picked Brazil and Holland only to go on and pick Nigeria and Chile.
In our modern air-conditioned office, this fever is set to spread and this maybe my last blog entry for a while. But with ‘three lions’ resonating in my head and on the front of my shirt, all I can say for now is ‘for queen and country, COME ON ENGLAND’!
