Knights, camera, action!
What with the the extra day's holiday (cheers Will and Kate!) and the fantastic weather, I decided to take the kids to the Medieval Jousting Festival at Sewerby Hall, near Bridlington.
Unusually, we were prepared for once and took along a picnic and our camping chairs, and managed to get seats with a great view of all the action. I knew my son Benjamin would enjoy the show, as he loves anything to do with swords and violence(!), but I wasn’t sure how my younger daughter Abigail would react.
I needn’t have worried, as when the first knight rode out carrying his flagon of ale, so ‘drunk’ he nearly fell off his horse, she was immediately caught up in the pantomime-style comedy and action that ensued. Fortunately, we were sat nearest the Black Knights team, so there was plenty of booing whenever one of the bad guys approached and called us all ‘ugly peasants’. You can’t beat a good 'bad' guy and the Black Knight was definitely one of the best!
